Injuries kill more men than women

Almost twice as many men as women die as a result of injuries each year. For each type of injuries (except those resulting from fires), death rates are higher for men than for women.

The death rates (per 100,000 population) of five types of injuries are listed below.

  • The death rate of drowning in male was about 2 times the rate in female.
  • The death rate of fires in male was about half of the rate in female.
  • The death rate of falls in male was nearly 2 times the rate in female.
  • The death rate of poisoning in male was about 1.5 times the rate in female.
  • The death rate of road traffic injury in male was about 2.5 times the rate in female.
