Injuries are a leading killer of youth

Injuries affect all age groups but have a particular impact on young people. For people between the ages of 5 and 44 years, injuries are one of the top three causes of death.

  • Two of the five leading causes of death in the age group 5 to 14 were due to injuries.
  • In the age group 15 to 29, one of the five leading causes of death was due to injuries.
  • In the age group 30 to 44, one of the five leading causes of death was due to injuries.
  • In all other age groups, no injuries is ranked among the five leading causes of death.
