“Young and Alcohol Free” Animated GIF Design Contest Hong Kong
Themes
To create animated GIFs under three themes:
- “Young and Alcohol Free”;
- “Say No to Alcohol”; and
- “Enjoy a Healthy Lifestyle”.

Categories
Two entry categories will be accepted, including:
- Family Category
(2 to 3 participants in each entry with at least 1 primary student and 1 parent) - Secondary School Category
(1-3 secondary students per entry)
Eligibility
All local primary school students with their parent(s) are eligible to join the Family Category and all secondary school students are eligible to join the Secondary School Category.
Entry Requirements
- All entries must be the original work of the participant. Entrants should own the copyrights of all submitted materials.
- Animated GIFs can be created by a variety of materials including illustrations, photos, graphics, words and combinations thereof.
- Participants are not allowed to purchase any alcohol-related product in the process of creating the animated GIFs.
- Entries must be in GIF format.
- The animated GIFs may include words in English or Chinese (written or colloquial Cantonese). A mix of both languages is also accepted.
- The motion of animated GIFs should be able to loop within 10 seconds. Size must be no larger than 2MB in the dimension of 400 x 400 pixels.
- Shortlisted Entries and Winning GIFs may be published or uploaded to the Department of Health website, social media platforms or materials where appropriate for promotional purposes.
Application
- Entries must be submitted by email from 1 March to 15 April 2017 to ncdd@dh.gov.hk . Please state “Young and Alcohol Free” Animated GIF Design Contest Hong Kong in the email subject line.
- Participants must provide their (1) name, (2) contact telephone number, (3) email address, (4) school name and grade of study (if applicable). Entries without providing the means of contact will be disqualified.
Submission Deadline
23:59 on 15 April 2017;Late submission will not be considered.
Judging Criteria
- Entrants will be awarded the (1)Best Animated GIF Award, (2) Most Popular Award and (3) Most Active Participating School Award in each category. “Best
Animated GIF Award”: Entries will be assessed by an adjudication panel based on :
Relevance to the theme 40% Originality and Creativity 30% Technique and Aesthetics 20% Clarity of content 10%
“Most Popular Award”: Entry with the highest number of votes from the online voting platform within a voting period will be awarded the “Most Popular Award”. Details on the online voting will be announced soon.
“Most Active Participating School Award”: The school with the highest number of total entries will be awarded. If equal numbers of entries are found, the school with the higher number of participants will be the winner.

All shortlisted entries will receive a souvenir from the Department of Health.
Result Announcement
- The result will be announced in mid-May 2017 on the “Change for Health” website (http://www.change4health.gov.hk).
- All winners will be notified separately.
- Participants who do not receive any notification may consider their entries unsuccessful.
Regulations
- Each entrant can only submit one entry.
- All entries should be original, without infringement of copyrights, and have not publicized before. Entries found to have infringed other people’s copyrights, be they commercial or non-commercial, will be disqualified. The Department of Health will not be held responsible for any infringement of copyrights committed by any participant.
- Participants must ensure their entries contain no pornography, violence, objectionable, commercial, political or religious propaganda element. They should also ensure that the entries do not lead to defamation, indecency, offensive, racial misunderstanding or discrimination.
- The Department of Health owns the copyrights of all entries and will have the right to edit and use all entries in publicity, exhibition or publication purposes. Prior notice or payment to participants for the copyright will not be required.
- The Department of Health will not notify individual participants upon receipt of entries. All submitted entries will not be returned.
- Entries not complying with stated competition regulations will be disqualified.
- Decisions of the adjudicating panel will be considered final. No objection by participants will be entertained.
- Participants agree to provide personal data and authorize the Department of Health to release the participant’s name, school name and grade of study for promotion purposes. All other collected data will be destroyed (if they are no longer required) after the contest.
- The Department of Health reserves the final right to interpret and amend the regulations of the contest.
- Participants must have full understanding of the regulations of the contest. Submission of entries by participants implies that they have agreed to abide by and accept all the regulations involved.
Personal Information Collection Statement
- Personal information collected from entrants will be used for the purpose of processing the contest including promotion of winning entries.
- Failure to provide such personal data may result in inability to process entry to the contest.
- Entrants have the right of access to and correction of personal information. Please contact us at ncdd@dh.gov.hk. A fee may be charged for such request.
