Main cause of injuries by gender
Analyzed by gender according to the Unintentional Injury Survey 2018, a higher proportion of injury episodes in females was due to falls (47.1% vs. 31.0% for injury episodes in males). In males, a higher proportion of injury episodes was due to hit / struck (16.9% vs. 10.1% for injury episodes in females) and sports (9.9% vs. 5.1% for injury episodes in females). The proportions of injury episodes due to sprain were similar for both genders.
